Anything you want to know about China travel, such as visa, guide, destination, transportation, accommodation, local foods ect.

1. Statutory Restricted Areas

Hong Kong has several statutory restricted areas (such as border restricted zones) that cannot be entered without permission. For example: - Sha Tau Kok Border Restricted Area: Apart from the partially open area of Chung Ying Street, most areas require applying for a "Restricted Area Permit" in advance. - Lok Ma Chau Border Control Zone: Only accessible to individuals with valid documents or permits.

How to apply for restricted area permits: Applications can be submitted through the Hong Kong Police Force website, or via a travel agency. Typically, you need to provide your passport and itinerary information, with approval taking about 1-2 weeks.

2. Military Managed Areas

The military facilities of the garrison in Hong Kong (such as barracks, training grounds, etc.) prohibit unauthorized visits around their perimeters. For example: - Angsua Island Barracks, Shek Kong Barracks, etc., where you must maintain a safe distance and avoid photographing or approaching.

3. Core Zones of Nature Reserves

Some ecological reserves restrict entry to protect fragile environments: - Mai Po Nature Reserve: Access to the core zone requires prior application for permission, limited to research or guided activities. - Southern Lantau Country Park certain areas: Due to rugged terrain or ecological sensitivity, follow designated trails.

4. Other Areas to Note

  • High-altitude or Dangerous Areas: Such as undeveloped cliffs or reservoir dams (e.g., part of the eastern dam of Plover Cove Reservoir), which may be closed for safety reasons.
  • Private Property: Clearly marked "private property" areas must not be entered without authorization.

General Recommendations

  1. Follow Signs and Regulations: All prohibited areas will have clear signage; do not cross them.
  2. Use Official Maps: Download the Hong Kong Government’s “HK TravelEasy” app to check real-time traffic and regional opening status.
  3. Emergency Contact: If you encounter any problems, contact the Hong Kong Tourism Board hotline at +852 2508 1234 or call emergency services at 999.
